PRE GAME: ISLANDERS @ MAPLE LEAFS

The Islanders will make their first visit of the season to the Air Canada Center (Centre?) when they take on Phil Kessel, James Van Riemsdyk and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Isles Look To Fly Above The Red Wings Tonight At The Coliseum

The struggling New York Islanders (7-10-3) look to turn things around tonight with Evgeni Nabokov in goal against the visiting Detroit Red Wings (9-5-6). The Red Wings, now a new Eastern Conference opponent due to the alignment change, are facing the Isles for the first time this season after a 4-3 shootout loss last night to the Washington Capitals.

The Isles, who once sat second in the Metropolitan Division, currently sit in 6th, five points behind the second place Capitals and three points behind the third place Carolina Hurricanes.

An inability to hold gain leads and/or hold them has propelled the Islanders to the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings (12th in the East) and has allowed their division rivals to surpass them.

Post Game Report 11/12/13: Islanders Snap Losing Streak, Defeat Predators 3-1 at Home

After a winless road trip, the Islanders returned home to Nassau Coliseum on Tuesday night for their second and final meeting of the season with the Nashville Predators. The first meeting was a Predators 3-2 victory last month. Tonight a different story as the Islanders snapped their 4 game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over the Predators on home ice.

Postgame 11/10: Islanders @ Canadiens

The New York Islanders lose to the Montreal Canadiens for their 4th loss in a row.

Isles Visit Montreal Looking To Break Losing Streak

New York’s struggles haven’t been confined to the current trip. Despite beating a good Boston team at home last week, the Isles are 3-6-1 in their last ten. This has dropped them from second in the division to fifth, and they’ve fallen to 11th in the conference. (Photo credit: kwong yee cheng/flikr)

In this context, these two points loom a bit larger. And, the Islanders will have to earn the win without newly acquired Thomas Vanek who was hurt in last night’s loss to the Blue Jackets in Columbus.

Introduction and Some Quick Hits

Hello all! This is my first blog for TCL and I just wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself to our reading audience.

Columbus' Day: Isles Fall to Lowly Jackets

It has been a long week for the New York Islanders. The early season road trip has been an absolute disaster for the Isles and dropping a 5-2 decision to the Columbus Blue Jackets Saturday continued the misery. Columbus came into the game losers of five straight, but clearly was a team that just wanted it more last night as they did something that has been the bugaboo of the Isles all season; they played the full 60 minutes.

Is It Time To Look To Bridgeport For Help?

Prior to the Islanders game against the Carolina Hurricanes last night, defenseman Aaron Ness was recalled for some help on the blueline. It could have been for help, or for a bit of a shake up as well which I think is needed for this team at the moment.

Pregame 11/5: Islanders at Capitals

The Islanders begin a 4 game road trip tonight in our nation’s capital against the Washington Capitals at the Verizon Center that is now a divisional matchup as part of the Metropolitan Division.

Okposo Looks to Continue to KO the Competiton

How has Kyle Okposo's career turned that proverbial corner? Has it been the players he's been playing with, his maturation of a hockey player, or was it that one special night in May? Check out how Okposo is becoming a monster on the stat sheet this season.(flickr/Official New York Islanders)
