Finding A Goalie: Should the Flyers Go After Ryan Miller or Save the Money

Just one day after buying out Ilya Bryzgalov, the Philadelphia Flyers are already being linked to a netminder that could replace Bryzgalov.

According to Josh Rimer of Sportsnet, the Flyers are discussing a potential deal involving Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller. It is unclear what stage the talks are currently in but it appears that there is significant interest from both sides.

Miller posted a 17-17-5 record with a 2.81 goals-against-average and a .915 save percentage during the 2012-2013 season. Over his career, the American goalie has a 269-164 record with a 2.59 goals-against-average and a .915 save percentage. The American netminder made $6.25 million this past season and carries a similar price tag to Bryzgalov.

Miller was the 138th overall pick in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft out of Michigan State and has played with the Sabres for all 11 seasons of his professional career. The former Spartan was a member of the silver medal United States team in the 2010 Winter Olympics and was the MVP of the tournament.

What's In The Islanders' Pipeline Between The Pipes?

A quick check of the New York team site will tell you they have Kevin Poulin, Anders Nilsson, Mikko Koskinen and Cody Rosen. Let's forget Rosen for the purposes of this article. The Clarkson goaltender is a back up at his school and has no real future at the NHL level.

Tim Thomas to the Islanders, Good Deal or Bad Deal

Islanders trade for Tim Thomas. Is this a good move or not?

So Long Timmy: Bruins Trade Thomas To Islanders

A year ago today, if you told any Boston Bruins fan that Tim Thomas would be traded to the New York Islanders, they'd call you crazy and throw a cheap beer in your face...in all fairness it doesn't take much to get a Bostonian to throw a beer.

But that is what we heard today. The Vezina winning, Conn Smyth toting, brick wall of a beast who led the Bruins to an epic Cup run in 2010-2011, is heading down the Long Island Expressway.  The Bruins traded Thomas for a conditional second round pick in either 2014 or 2015.  The condition being if Thomas doesn't play for the Islanders or they don't trade his rights, the B's don't get the pick.  A second ...

2013 NHL Eastern Conference Power Rankings

The 2013 NHL season is no longer an 82 game marathon, but instead is a 48 game dash to the finish line.

Will teams that had multiple players skating in Europe fair better? Will veteran squads win because they will have fresh legs all season long? Only the next few months will tell.

Here are my Eastern Conference power rankings.

1. Pittsburgh Penguins – A healthyEvgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby will lead Pittsburgh deep into the Stanley Cup playoffs. The addition of veteran goalie Tomas Vokoun gives Coach Dan Bylsma a solid option if Marc-Andre Fleury falters.

2. New York Rangers – With the ...

TCL Round 1 Staff Predictions: Boston Bruins vs. Washington Capitals

( 2 ) BOSTON BRUINS vs. ( 7 ) WASHINGTON CAPITALS

The defending Stanley Cup Champions will have to first go through the Washington Capitals in this year's playoffs if they have any plans of repeating. Fortunately for them, the Capitals aren't exactly the most consistent team in the league right now. Frankly, they're probably lucky to find themselves in the playoffs after everything that's gone on in the nation's capital this year. Star players underperforming and creating mutinies against coaches, GMs unable to figure out what to do with their team, just a lot of headaches and problems for the Caps and their fans.  The Bruins, on the other han...

Flyers' Luck Runs Out In Shootout Loss

The Flyers went into Boston needing to get two points. They left with one, and they should be lucky to have gotten that much.

The Bruins managed to hold off a Flyers comeback for a 3-2 win in the shootout, and more importantly, a much needed two points in the Eastern Conference standings.

Outplayed for much of the game, Philadelphia did manage to get a couple goals past Boston goalie Tim Thomas in the second and third periods but other than that, they were out-muscled by Boston's pressure for much of the game's 60 minutes.

For starters, luck wasn't on the Flyers side early, especially for goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov.

Flyers Look for Afternoon Delight This Weekend

So far this season, the Flyers have struggled mightily while playing during the day.

The team’s 3-8-1 record in afternoon games is proof enough of that.

Looking lethargic at times, the team’s lack of jump in day time hockey has resulted in sloppy play, which has allowed their opponents to outscore them 49-33 in those kinds of games.

Obviously, this is a trend that needs to be eliminated in the near future.

John Tavares Shines In NHL All Star Game

The NHL All Star game is basically a chance for the NHL to sell itself to the fans by showcasing top level talent for two nights in a row. Fans are treated to highlight reel moves that you don't get to see in every hockey game as well as having the chance to become better acquainted with their on ice heroes. Several players are mic'ed up and provide commentary throughout the two nights, even while they are in game action, as seen with Montreal comedian/goaltender, Carey Price.

Price has become an excellent goaltender for the Canadiens and wasn't shy about showing off his personality, stopping a puck by facing the glass and using the reflection to help him guage his positioning as well as giving Islanders rep John Tavares a "Tim Tebow" as he came in for one of his shootout moves.

Players need to step up heading into game against Bruins

The last time the Philadelphia Flyers and Boston Bruins met, it was in the midst of a seven-game winning streak for the Flyers.

But unfortunately for the orange and black-clad team, that streak came to an abrupt end when they hosted the Stanley Cup champion Bruins.

In a pathetic showing which was featured on HBO’s 24/7, the Flyers were abused 6-0 at the hands of Boston. Just over a month later, the Bullies will seek pay back against the Bruins, who they have split the season series, 1-1, so far.
