Five different Blackhawks players scored, including Andrew Shaw with the game-winner, in a 5-2 Chicago victory over the Dallas Stars Monday night.

The Blackhawks (33-5-4) win was their third over Dallas (21-18-3) this year, sweeping the season series. The win was also Chicago’s sixth straight and moved them 11 points ahead of the idle Anaheim Ducks for the top spot in the Western Conference.

The Blackhawks are clearly ready to start another winning streak, as they took their second win in a row, this one an 8-1 romp over the Stars on Dallas ice.

It took Chicago more than six minutes to get their first recorded SOG, but after that, the floodgates were opened - the Blackhawks would outshoot the Stars 11-3 in the first period. Three of those would be goals: Jonathan Toews opened the scoring at 9:05, a redirect off a Leddy shot. Toews would score again under two minutes later to give Chicago a 2-0 lead; and then Nick Leddy shoveled in a goal on the Dallas doorstep to make it 3-0 with 2:06 left in the period.

In a classic original six rivalry at Joe Louis Arena, the Chicago Blackhawks once again found a way to win and in doing so kept their streak alive. It is now 22 games where they have secured at least a point bringing the Blackhawks to a record of 19-0-3.

This game had that old time hockey feel to it, where goaltending was spectacular; incredible skating pace; perfect positioned defensive play and skilled forwards on both sides.

You don’t need high scoring to have a great hockey game which this one was. There is just something about Chicago and Detroit match ups that brings out the best in both teams.

The past two seasons were a struggle for the Blackhawks. Although they qualified for the playoffs both years, neither route was ideal.

In 2011, gutted post-Cup victory, they backed into the playoffs based on the Wild's win over the Stars in game 82. The battle leading up to the playoffs left the team battered and tired - yet they still pushed the Canucks to Game 7 OT in the first round.

In 2012, they had a bit more of a cushion, but 101 points in the ultra-competitive West was only good enough for 6th place. Although the Blackhawks pushed the Coyotes to five OT games, and then lost to Phoenix 0-4 in Game 6 on home ice.

The Chicago Blackhawks continued their winning streak last night by way of a 2-1 overtime victory against their Central Division rival Detroit Red Wings to move to 6-0-0 on the season, their best start in franchise history. Not too bad. The winning tally came just over halfway through the extra period, when a Detroit turnover in the Chicago defensive zone led to a deep outlet pass to Hawks winger Viktor Stalberg. The Chicago Blackhawks completed the Opening Night hat trick, securing their their win in a row in the third home opener they participated in -- this time, on home ice at the United Center in Chicago.

Before an opening night crowd of 21,455 - the largest opening night crowd in the NHL this season - the Blackhawks had a 3-0 lead and it looked like they might get their first shut out in nearly two years. However, St. Louis managed a late rally, scoring twice in the third period, to keep the game close.

This is going to be an interesting year in the Central. The Blues have proven persistent and should look to repeat from last year.
