Blackhawks take on the World

Although the Chicago Blackhawks season may have ended some Blackhawks were  not ready to put their hockey sticks down just yet. Several Blackhawks decided to represent their countries teams at the IIHF World Championships held simultaneously in Helsinki, FIN and Stockholm, SWE.

Duncan Keith D and Patrick Sharp LW played for team Canada while Viktor Stalberg RW, Niklas Hjalmarsson D and Marcus Kruger C donned the Swedish team jersey. Michael Frolik also is playing for the Czech Republic team.

Unfortunately, on Thursday both Team Canada and Team Sweden were knocked out of the quarterfinal rounds by Slovakia and Czech Republic respectively. Michael Frolik is the...

Blackhawks clinch playoff spot and find power switch on their power play in Nashville

Sometimes things are sweeter when you have to work for them and they don’t come so easy.  As a fan of hockey, I have to say this game had it all & then some. In a game that saw the Hawks running away with the game to start and then have it come down to a nail biting finish is what hockey is all about. Who says the playoffs start on April 11th? I think they’ve already begun.

The Blackhawks held on to defeat the Nashville Predators and in the process secure themselves a ticket to the playoffs.  Unlike last year they determined their own fate and did not leave it on another team's sticks. The Hawks have learned from past mistakes which says a ...

Blackhawks find their mojo in shootout win over the Blues

The Blackhawks are still without their Captain, but they're still grabbing points - and, more importantly, getting wins - out of their opponents in the home stretch for the playoffs.

Coming into the game, the Blues were holding three streaks: they hadn't allowed a PPG in nearly 50 PK attempts (it would end at 51); they were on a 5-game winning streak; and the Blues were also 36-0-0 when scoring 3 or more goals.

Against the Blues tonight, Chicago broke open the scoring early with an Andrew Brunette goal just 2:51 into the game. It hasn't felt like the Blackhawks have been getting on the scoresheet first lately, so to not start out the game in a hole was a ...

Blackhawks start the February road trip in Vancouver

Tuesday evening in Vancouver, the Chicago Blackhawks will kick off the start of their February 9-game road stretch with a tilt against the Canucks. Captain Jonathan Toews will be back in the lineup after missing the January 24th game vs. the Predators and the All-Star Game due to a minor injury. It is also likely that Patrick Sharp will be back for the Hawks after missing a few weeks due to a fractured wrist.

So far this season, the Blackhawks and Canucks are 1-1, each taking a win by four goals in the other's barn - the Canucks won 6-2 on November 6 at the United Center in the infamous "game with all the PPGs" (five, to be exact). T...

Blackhawks take a bite out of the Sharks

The Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks last faced off in San Jose in early December, a tight 3-2 OT win. Before that was the 0-1 loss in San Jose the night before Thanksgiving, a game which saw Chicago battling back after suffering a crushing - and humiliating - 9-2 loss to Edmonton a few nights before.

Since that time, Chicago has played well enough to land themselves in constant competition for the number one position in the West. Likewise, the Sharks have finally found some smoother sailing after rough patches to start the season, and have now clawed their way to the top of the struggling Pacific division. Of course, they still have ex-Blackhawk (and Cup-winning) Antti Niemi sig...

Wings Go For 14th Straight Home Win on the 14th

With Friday the 13th in the past, Detroit faces off against Chicago today on home ice for a nationally televised matinee. The Wings are coming off a 3-2 comeback victory against Phoenix that was Mike Babcock's 400th win and Jimmy Howard's 100th. Detroit seeks to tie their franchise record for consecutive home wins set during the 1964-65 season. Only two points separate the teams, with St. Louis sitting in between them.

The two previous games have been just as close as their place in the standings with both being decided 3-2. Chicago won once in regulation and Detroit won last week in overtime. Today's game should be no different.

The Blackhawks' are missing sco...

Game preview: Getting Wild in Chicago

The Minnesota Wild and Chicago Blackhawks last met up on a rainy day in mid-December in St. Paul. The Blackhawks came away with a shoot out win, with Patrick Kane providing a memorable goal to seal the win.

It was the second game in an eight-game losing streak for the Wild; including being shut out 0-4 by the Canucks on Vancouver ice. The Wild have had just 2 wins in their past 13 games; their record in that stretch is 2-8-3. It is a far cry from the 20-7-3 that Minnesota started the season with; and the Wild has plunged from first in the West to 7th, hanging on ahead of the rising Los Angeles Kings. The Wild has been hurt by injuries; Clayton Stoner just returned to the roster...

An Original Six matchup in Chicago tonight

Tonight at the United Center, the Blackhawks will host a classic Original Six matchup against the Montréal Canadiens. These teams have only met up once a year - and not even every season - over the past several years. Next season, fans will get to see them twice a season, which will be a great addition to the schedule.

In the meantime, despite a loss against the Pittsburgh Penguins last night, the Blackhawks still sit atop the standings with 46 points. The struggling Canadiens are on the low side of the bubble for the playoffs watch (33 pts); they just fired their coach Jacques Martin last Saturday, with Randy Cunneyworth currently handling coaching duties for the team.

The Blackhawks are winning, but what needs work?

Does anybody else find it odd that Daniel Carcillo is leading the team with +/-, at +5? Carcillo has been a pleasant surprise so far, playing - dare we say it - smart.

Last year, the main word that was used to describe the Chicago Blackhawks all season long was "consistency". The team didn't have it; couldn't get any major winning streaks going; and most of the time, couldn't put together a third period to finish off opponents, leaving points on the table strewn across the league.

This year, the Blackhawks have come out of the gate hot. There's a lot to be thrilled about as a fan - a lot of production; team chemistry on the ice clearly there from open...
