A special night at Yankee Stadium for the NHL Stadium Series as the Islanders/Rangers rivalry added history by playing outdoor at this historic venue. The conditions were not what fans and the players are used to with a 22 degree game time temperature and playing in front of over 50,000 fans under the lights.
On the day that the Islanders revealed their new threads for the Stadium Series game at Yankee Stadium, they will look to get back to their winning ways in front of their home crowd. The New York Islanders will be taking on the Winnipeg Jets, who are 5-3-2 in their last 10 games. On the other side of that, is the struggling Isles who has won just 2 of their last 10 contests. They have only walked away with 4 of 24 potential points. These losing ways have the Isles resting rather uncomfortably in the basement of the Metropolitan Division with a measly 19 points.
Many years ago, Charles Wang set forth an initiative to have the New York Islanders play at Yankee Stadium against the New York Rangers. At the time, the Islanders were not in the middle of a rebuild, but were not one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference either.
Therefore, like many other things that have happened on the island in recent years, the idea was eventually shot down.
Although he may not have gotten his beloved Lighthouse Project or new arena in Nassau County, one of Wang's visions will finally come true.
The New York Islanders will play against the New York Rangers at Yankee Stadium on January 29th, 2014.
