Hawks look to rebound in Game 4

The Hawks and Wild will face off in a Game 4 that could could be classified as a ‘must-win’ for either team.  While this isn’t a Game 7 scenario, a win for either team could change the momentum of the series.

The Hawks still hold the series lead at 2-1, but they fell flat in their first road game against the Wild, failing to get a single puck past netminder Ilya Bryzgalov.  They’ll need to step up their offense and ...

Hawks shut out in Game 3 against Wild

After taking the first two games of the series, the Hawks came out flat in the third period and fell to the Wild 2-0 in Game 3. Goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov, who has been highly scrutinized after replacing the injured Darcy Kuemper in net, stopped 19 shots to get his first shutout this playoff season and his fourth career playoff shutout.  This loss also marked the eighth consecutive time the Hawks have lost the first road game in a playoff series, dating back to 2010.

Blackhawks fall to Wild 4-3; head home to face the Ducks

For the first time this season, the Chicago Blackhawks took two losses in a row.

The Blackhawks gave up one goal to the Wild early in the first, an even-strength goal for Matt Cooke, 4:23 into the game. It would take until late in the second period for Minnesota to grab another goal, this one a power play goal by Zach Parise to make it 2-0.

Chicago was getting outshot and outworked for most of the first and second periods. The Blackhawks had just 7 shots through 27 minutes. They looked more like a team coming off a two-week road trip than a team that had a day off yesterday.

Jeremy Morin would get the Blackhawks on the board with just 17 seconds remaining ...

What Went Wrong in 2013 Part 5: Front Office Is to Blame

The Flyers came to a crossroads two offseasons ago.

They could have gone in one or two directions. One side of the path had them rebuilding the team, pushing a youth movement that would make them a dangerous contender in a couple years. The other path was the same win-now mentality the Flyers have had for the last two decades, resulting in a couple Stanley Cup berths and a handful of Conference Finals appearances.

Unfortunately, general manager Paul Holmgren tried to travel down both paths at once and wound up falling flat on his face this season.
