CHI @ MIN - Postgame Recap

The Minnesota Wild took to the ice on fire against the Chicago Blackhawks Wednesday night, scoring within 90 seconds of the puck drop.  The relentless physical demand brought out the best of both teams, ending in a shootout and a Wild victory 3-2.

Minnesota Wild: Recapping an up and down first week

After one week of play, the Minnesota Wild sit at a pedestrian 2-2-1 record. Zach Parise has set the standard in the early season with 9 points including 5 goals. The top line of Parise-Mikko Koivu-Dany Heatley has combined for 21 points and has scored 10 of the Wild's 13 goals.

They've been great. The supporting cast has not. That goes without saying when three players account for 75% of a team's goal output.

It's still early, but early ,to paraphrase Yogi Berra, is a lot later in this 48 ...

Flyers look to right ship against Devils

The Flyers will be looking for their first win against division rival New Jersey on Tuesday night.

Devils vs. Islanders 1/19/13: Isles Open Up At Home

The 2012-13 NHL season commences today, with 13 games in total taking place. More importantly, the New York Islanders will have their fourth consecutive home-opener against last season's Eastern Conference Champions, the New Jersey Devils.

Unfortunately, the Isles haven't won on opening night since 2007. Last October, they gave the new Winnipeg Jets their first win in 2-0 shutout. (Photo Credit: IslesPunkFan/Flickr)

Minnesota Wild: Season Outlook

When the Minnesota Wild host the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday, January 19, it will be the most important regular season game in franchise history. The Wild faithful have been eagerly awaiting the end of the lockout perhaps more than any other fan base. Finally, they'll see Zach Parise and Ryan Suter in live action.

The opening night not only births a new era of Wild hockey, but also culminates “Hockey Day Minnesota,” an annual celebration of the game in the State of Hockey. Excitement is at an all time high. Thousands have already packed The Xcel Energy Center... for th...

NHL Lockout: Could the Lockout benefit the Minnesota Wild and their fans?

Let’s clear something up before considering the above question. TCL does not condone the NHL lockout, nor do the great fans of the Minnesota Wild. But in times like these we must find the glimmers of light in the dark corners of the hockey abyss; we must find the few positives that may yet come from Bettman’s systematic destruction of the 2012-13 season.

On the surface, the Wild and their fans appear to lose more than most teams with the absent season. The summer of Parise and Suter brought interest in the franchise to an all-time high. Minnesotans who have only lifted the silver of a Lake Trout dreamt of holding the glistening Stanley Cup on a sun-drenched lake in ...

The Minnesota Wild's Summer

As the summer draws to a close so too does the Minnesota Wild’s most exciting offseason in history. In addition to the well publicized Zach Parise, Ryan Suter Fourth of July signings, the Wild added needed depth in forwards Zenon Konopka and Torrey Mitchell. They also re-signed steady backup net minder Josh Harding to below market value.

The result has been a boost of optimism for a club that so desperately needed it.

All parties involved-ownership, management, players, and fans- watched as the team slowly came down from the high of a promising start for their franchise. In the Wild’s first ten seasons, they qualified for the postseason three times, won a divi...

Minnesota Wild Person of Interest: Cal Clutterbuck

Cal Clutterbuck burst onto the scene and arrived in ill-humor, determined to singlehandedly bring back the raucous NHL of the 1970’s. In his rookie year of 2008-09, the mustachioed winger shattered the record for hits in a season with 356.

Just last season he slugged a linesman in the face, albeit accidently.

The NHL’s hit king, though, isn’t held in the same esteem as say baseball’s version might be. Clutterbuck to opponents is a pest, an agitator, a head hunter; a young, reckless punk who will likely injure himself if not an opponent before too long.

Minnesota Wild fans love him.

His relentless play is obvious to even the most...

Why Alex Semin is still a free agent—but shouldn't be

Now that Zach Parise is off the market and planning how to spend the next 13 years in Minnesota (there’s a broken mirror joke there somewhere), free agent Alex Semin is probably getting a few more phone calls than he was a week ago.

He’s going to be a second prize to a team that was hoping to land Parise. As far as career stats go, he’s about as close a second prize as they come and some team is going to end up with a guy who is not that far removed from a 40-goal season.

But they’re also going to get a guy less further removed from a 21-goal season with 56 penalty minutes, a four-year low for him.

It’s all about ceilings and floors with Sem...

Minnesota Wild: Five to watch at Prospect Camp

Minnesota Wild fans will have to wait until at least September to watch their prized additions like Zenon Konopka and Torrey Mitchell hit the ice. It is likely that Ryan Suter and Zach Parise will suit up then too.

All jokes aside, this is an exciting time for the Wild and their fans. Suter and Parise will lead the team into contention for years to come. Fans can get a glimpse of some of their future teammates at this week's Prospect Development Camp.

The Green/White scrimmages will be open to the public Thursday and Sunday. If you cant make it to St. Paul you could always check out a local squirt tournament where you might find Suter's future "D" partn...
