This REALLY didn't earn him a suspension? REALLY?!

George Prax's picture

Not even a penalty on the ice. Not even 2 minutes.

Anonymous's picture

If that's not a blind side hit, I don't know what is.

George Prax's picture

It's not blind side. Blind side is halfway between your side and back. This was purely from behind. This isn't even rule 48, this was already illegal Tongue

Anonymous's picture

Exactly, George, it's completely blind to the player taking the hit. He never saw it coming. Blind Side.

*facepalm*

That's both crazy and one hell of a team!

Patrick Storto's picture

this is how they should do the all-star teams next year. Concussion vs. Non-Concussion

Dan Lazar's picture

Well you know acording to Bettman, professional hockey players Always catch an edge and it just so happens that the head hits the ice!

feuerfrei514's picture

Wow that team could wreck most nhl teams lol

George Prax's picture

Or concussions vs knee/leg injuries. I'm sure that's a pretty good team too.

Parise - Roy - Downie
Michalek - Malkin - Frolov
Hanzal - Jordan Staal - Steen
Kaleta - Drury - Huselius

Phaneuf - Pronger
Markov - Gorges
Rafalski - Bieksa
Kuba - Spacek
Whitney

Varlamov
Anderson

And I'm sure I'm missing a lot.

Yay, now do the "I've been cut by a skate" team, that way Richard Zednik is finally accepted in the league.

George Prax's picture

How about a team full of players who got away with questionable hits?

Anonymous's picture

@George: Nah, Matt Cooke would have to play every position.

Classy stuff from the owner. Doesn't mention chara or the Bruins, just says he disagrees and they will do everything in their power to handle it.

First Lemieux, then various people in the government including the Prime Minister, then a major sponsor, and now another owner who's also a major sponsor.

That's a lot of people Gary. What are you going to do, threaten to sell another beer?

Anonymous's picture

I didn't agree with Lemieux calling out the league when his team ices the dirtiest player in the NHL, but I will say after watching the Leafs play the Islanders the other night that the team is certainly bitchy and overly-aggressive. I think a lot needs to be done to fix some respect into the league.

George Prax's picture

I don't think it should matter that Lemieux employs Cooke. Yes he's the dirtiest player in the league - you've read the blogs I've written - but you have to give the guy credit. He can actually play hockey and I don't think any team would turn him away if he was a free agent, despite his problems. And you're going to defend your own players, it's only natural. Sure, Cooke is part of the problem, but why does that mean that Lemieux can't be part of the solution.

Not to mention that EVERY team has or has had their fair share of dirty players, so that would make eveyrone a hypocrite. It's just the norm in the league that everyone has to have these guys. It's unfortunate, but what Lemieux did was a good thing.

What Molson did even better.

It was funnier seeing Ovi snapping the picture live, could be even funnier and ironic should Kessel finish the season with more goals than The Great 8!

Another suspension I agree with.... one thing I disagree with, is how announcers handle these things... "Gillies showing you the type of guy he is". That's wrong to me.

Anonymous's picture

It should have been called: Trevor Gillies: GTFO!

Daniel_W's picture

Why does no one make a big deal when Matt Cooke does something like this? All of his dirty checks and plays could probably equal everyone else's throughout a year combined Tongue

I guess you missed the multiple blogs I wrote on his most recent incidents:

What bothers us is that the announcers for the Wild called Nutterbutts hit clean on DiBo and when they replayed it, they only showed Gillies hit. Plus all the hockey experts saying he doesnt belong in the league. Really? Boogard, Grimson, Landon, Godard, Orr(Colton not Bobby) McGrattan, Cooke, ..... just to name a few players that experts need to watch or remember from the past.

George Prax's picture

I don't think anyone's saying that a lot of those players (to be fair to matt cooke as much as I hate him the guy can actually play hockey) shouldn't be in the league either, but Gillies takes it to a completely other level.

Gillies can`t even score at an ECHL or AHL level, yet alone at the NHL level. If you can't score goals in the frigging minors, you don't belong in the NHL. It's pretty much as simple as that. I heard on the radio that Gillies actually had more penalty minutes than he does minutes played in his NHL career. That's only ever happened ONCE in the history of the NHL apparently. This isn't an NHL player, and as much as you want to defend your team you can't deny that he brings NOTHING to any team other than penalties.

haha Kyper's awesome, but not awesome enough for me to watch sportsnet for the deadline. TSN just has far too much more resources. That said, had Rogers actually bought the Leafs, I may have been watching a different channel this year.
