Clean hit, bad reaction, but good on Penner for sticking up for Hall.

George Prax's picture

He wouldn't have to if Hall would stick up for himself, i.e. stick up his head instead of slouching over.

It's not all sunshine and rainbows. The Habs haven't played a complete game for months, if at all this season. And without Markov and Gorges they have no chance in the playoffs. There's being optimistic, and there's being blind. The Canadiens are lucky to have picked up 7 of the last 8 points. Very lucky.

Cinerichabs88's picture

have you seen a team that doesn't need some luck to win? look at the game last night between boston and pitsburg. it took 3minutes and 43 seconds to score 4 goals. i know they haven't played 60 minute hockey for a few months, but you name a team that all there players compete night in night out! even if markov and georges are in the line up the scoring wont come from them all the time. if anything we might be first on the PK then second. i think we should focus more on the important part scoring. if that is what your arguing then yes i will agree with you.

by the way see what Kostopoulos got, a nice 6 games lol (thats for you georgy)

George Prax's picture

I'm not saying that it doesn't sometimes take luck to win, but with the Habs, it ALWAYS takes luck to win. They NEVER dominate on the scoreboard, they always fall behind and when that happens, the odds of them coming back are slim to none. It's one thing to take a night off once in a while, it happens to everyone, but you realize you just admitted the team hasn't played 60 minute hockey in MONTHS? That's not how a playoff team plays. And if you're going to play like that, which is a coaching issue, not a player issue, then the Canadiens need defenseman who can cover mistakes. Gorges and Markov were those defensemen, and they're not there anymore. Without a player like Gorges this team goes nowhere, so they need another d-man. They have the pieces (minus maybe one scoring forward) up front, they just need to find a way to have two lines performing well simultaneously.

Either way, it's definitely not all unicorns and posies for this team.

i think this years world juniors has really hurt the overall ranking of sean couturier, he was almost a no show everygame.

George Prax's picture

Great stuff. Kind of surprised Landeskog overtook Couturier, even with the world juniors, but I haven't been following as closely.

czechtacular's picture

Couturier's WJC was meh. Tongue (says my scalp who had hair ripped out of it on many an occasion)

Happy about Huberdeau and the Sea Dogs' invasion Laughing out loud

Patrick Storto's picture

If I was a GM with the 1st overall pick, I'd go with Couturier. Not every year you get a chance to draft a 6'4" Center near the top of the draft.

George Prax's picture

Too bad your GM killed any chance of that happening to your team, eh?

Patrick Storto's picture

doesn't matter, they're all gonna be busts anyways

Oh ya. Definitely.

Love this. No one does commercials better than the NHL. Add ESPN to the mix and you have a sure winner. I'm so glad they're working together more now.

Adam Reid's picture

I have to admit, it is a great commercial. Guess this is why Ovechkin is dropping in the scoring race, all that time spent making commercials must interfere with practise time! If the NHL doesn't work out, theres always a door open I guess, smart guy. Ha. ha.

I thought it was about the right time for people to start overreacting lol.

Read my blogs over this past month, i said that the Canadiens were due to drop off. I'm going to write more about this when I get the chance but consider that a) few teams have winning records on the road and b) the Canadiens had an easy home-heavy schedule to start the season... things were bound to level off and no one should be surprised. No one should have thought this was a top team in the east. The Canadiens will finish 7th-8th-9th as they always do, and then... who knows.

Clearly the team is missing Markov, the player the team is basically built around. And that's obviously the trade they need to make to bring in a defenseman. Whether that should have been done already or not, I don't know, but with the average age of our d-men and all the contracts ending in June a big move needs to go down. No more excuses.

Cinerichabs88's picture

I'll say this: PLLLLLLLLLLLLLEEAAAASSEE Mr. Molson! Hire Pierre McGuire, he'll be so much better than that Gautier. i don't think they'll finish 8th i do think they can play with the big boys and i really do think that they might not finish 1st of the conference but they can easily finish first in the division, boston is not that much better than the habs and the north east is especially weak this season.
