Penner is out of shape, inconsistent, unreliable and overpaid and incredibly overrated. He's the last person I would want on this team.

Size is overrated sometimes. Don't just look for who's 6'4" 240lbs because size doesn't always equate skill or talent.

Cinerichabs88's picture

but he has proven before that he can play in this league, maybe a change of air is what he need's. we have to go beyond the stats sometimes.

George Prax's picture

But it seems to me that you're just looking at his stats... size, a couple of good seasons and a cup. Keep in mind the team he won the cup with was ridiculously deep and he had no shortage of forwards to feed him the puck. And the only reason he even got a big contract like he did was because Kevin Lowe is a douche and wanted to screw over any team he could. Honestly, I think he's literally the most overrated player in the entire league right now, save maybe the other contract Kevin Lowe basically gave to Thomas Vanek.

Cinerichabs88's picture

lol understood but what helps the situation if penner does come to montreal is that his contract is partially paid by the habs because it would be the rest of his last year, seeing that he hasn't had much success with the oilers he will sign for cheap if he does pan out with the habs. second he will see another player he won the cup with in moen, and second he will have a pretty good line mate with gomez to feed him and gio to pick up the rebounds or feed penner. if he needs someone to feed him gomez and gionta can do it. it's just a suggestion because we wouldn't have to sign him at the end of the yer or we can force him to do what bertuzzi did with detroit, sign for less.

George Prax's picture

I honestly don't think his cup experience really matters all that much. It's not like we're lacking that on the team, we have plenty of players with that including Gomez and Gionta. For all you know he'll ruin the Chemistry, or could be the next latendresse. I'd rather not give up assets to get him.

Should be a great game. Wonder if Tubby Tim will use the special powers of his beer gut to shut down the Habs tonight.

Cinerichabs88's picture

lol maybe but his streak has to end sooner or later, lol.

With Jeff Halpern producing 10 points in his first 15 games, tied for second on the team with a +7, and a shooting percentage of nearly 30% playing just over 13 minutes per game, do you feel a move to the second line could be beneficial for a possible significant improvement to the secondary scoring?

Phil T's picture

No. Leave that line intact FOR GOD'S SAKE

I think we have one question for sure will have to be about O'Byrne Tongue

This week's panel can be found here, featuring Iain Carnegie and myself, as usual, welcoming Kamal Panesar and Kevin Van Steendelaar.

We would appreciate thoughts on the format, nature of the questions and overall process, and any suggestions you might have for future questions, of course.

4-2 Canucks, same shit different day for the Habs.

Mark Trible's picture

I actually like the habs in this match-up. and no, i'm not trying to jinx them prax

Cinerichabs88's picture

lol ok Prax, i know your frustrated with the team and JM, but you must agree with what i said above at least. if the habs play a smart ROAD game at home then they will win unless ofcourse Luongo stands on his head!

George Prax's picture

The Canucks are on a six game winning streak, they're a high scoring team and their forwards are firing on all cylinders, not to mention their defense which you talked about.

Sure, if the Canadiens play smart and a full 60 minutes they could win, but seriously, what are the chances of that happening? You're basing your prediction on fandom and a lot of intangibles and I just don't see it against a cup contending team that ALWAYS brings it against the Habs.

The Canadiens haven't played a 60 minute game yet, their powerplay is in shambles and their entire top six is slumping. Look at it objectively. There's little to no chance the Habs win this game unless they get REALLY lucky.

Cinerichabs88's picture

lol, my prediction is justified but what i mentioned. yes the chances are slim but when push comes to shuve the habs always give us something to talk about. We always say the habs are going to get creamed then they let one out of the hat and freak everybody out. am i say it's a sure win, no but im leaving the possibility of a surprise or else there just ain't nothing to look forward too this season!

George Prax's picture

But that's the thing, if they do win it will be just that - a surprise. And then they'll go right back to sucking once we think that they're turning a corner. If they win tomorrow, like we both said, it will be a surprise, a fluke, it will be due to luck, and not a good road game or because Luongo's been average or whatever.

Cinerichabs88's picture

we need to take them any way they come, we'll see how it goes tomorrow.

George Prax's picture

What can I say Eric, when you're right, you're right. Good call!

Cinerichabs88's picture

lol i try thats all, thats the best part about predictions, you more wrong than right.
