We all know the storied history between the Habs and Bruins, going as far back as the Richard era. Some have seen the great dual between Gerry Cheevers and Tony Esposito or also the grand allure of Esposito and Dryden in the 70’s. We have been blest to receive a great rivalry greater than any other in the league and this season will not let down as well.
We came ever so close last post season to meet our storied brethren if it were not for the Broad Street Bullies memorable come back. Down 3 games to none, for the first time in franchise history and second only to Montreal, the Philadelphia Flyers won the next four to eliminate the Bruins from meeting the Habs in the Eastern conference finals.
This year is a new year and with some new faces in the line up the bruins has shown their colors this season and knows that they can play with any team in the NHL. Not only are they big, but skill full as well. There are key components for the Habs to succeed tonight against the BBB’s, but first let’s see what they are up against.
Offense:
The Habs will have to contain a multiple of players this game to come out with the victory. The Bruins up front have the size and grit to hurt and score simultaneously. The top four up front to watch are Krejci, Horton, Bergeron and Lucic. Horton, Krejci and Lucic are all big fast and skillful, they will punish on open ice and in the corners, Bergeron is the go to guy he has enough skill to make those around him better. But the bruins have a lot of secondary scoring as well, with ancients like Recchi, and young guns like Ryder, Paille, Seguin (second overall this year), Sturm, Wheeler and Thornton to rough it up. The Bruins have enough up front to pack a punch and score a goal.
Defense:
The D-line is the week link on the bruins. With the size they have, there D-man are great defensively, but slow on the comeback, Chara is great but can easily be beaten with speed same goes for Boychuck and Struart. The D-men to watch tonight will be Ference and Seidenberg. They both play an offensive style and can top gear on any given night with lots of speed.
Net- minding:
The big question now is in goal; Tim Thomas will get the start and let me tell you he’s the man this year. Leading the league in goals against, save %, and win %, not to mention his 8-0 start to the season. He will be the man to beat tonight no doubt.
The key to success:
So like Tuesday night, the Bleu, Blanc and Rouge will have to play smart instead of a straight up match up. But as said before the defense on Boston is very slow, they will have to use their speed to attack. Luckily for the Habs, speed is something they over flow with. What the Habs can use this game is a build off of last game. They out played Vancouver to a certain extent and dominated them defensively, if they can solve Thomas early it will set the tone to the game. Montreal got a glimpse at what a pair of Veteran D-Men can do, in my opinion i believe Spacek and Hamerlik having a slow start led to last games win. They know what it takes to win, the last game is the beginning of a stable D-line.
So to succeed the Habs will need to:
Take advantage of the Power Play-Use their speed on the attack to beat the slow defense-Play smart in the Defensive zone-Finally “Carey Price”, if he can dominate the game it will help unbalance Thomas and the moral of Bruins
Final prediction MTL wins 4-2

Penner is out of shape, inconsistent, unreliable and overpaid and incredibly overrated. He's the last person I would want on this team.
Size is overrated sometimes. Don't just look for who's 6'4" 240lbs because size doesn't always equate skill or talent.
but he has proven before that he can play in this league, maybe a change of air is what he need's. we have to go beyond the stats sometimes.
But it seems to me that you're just looking at his stats... size, a couple of good seasons and a cup. Keep in mind the team he won the cup with was ridiculously deep and he had no shortage of forwards to feed him the puck. And the only reason he even got a big contract like he did was because Kevin Lowe is a douche and wanted to screw over any team he could. Honestly, I think he's literally the most overrated player in the entire league right now, save maybe the other contract Kevin Lowe basically gave to Thomas Vanek.
lol understood but what helps the situation if penner does come to montreal is that his contract is partially paid by the habs because it would be the rest of his last year, seeing that he hasn't had much success with the oilers he will sign for cheap if he does pan out with the habs. second he will see another player he won the cup with in moen, and second he will have a pretty good line mate with gomez to feed him and gio to pick up the rebounds or feed penner. if he needs someone to feed him gomez and gionta can do it. it's just a suggestion because we wouldn't have to sign him at the end of the yer or we can force him to do what bertuzzi did with detroit, sign for less.
I honestly don't think his cup experience really matters all that much. It's not like we're lacking that on the team, we have plenty of players with that including Gomez and Gionta. For all you know he'll ruin the Chemistry, or could be the next latendresse. I'd rather not give up assets to get him.
