Great strategy by to eliminate Colorado as competition for #Vokoun by trading the rights to RFA #Varlamov for 1st & 2nd round draft choices. McPhee then signs Vokoun the next day for not much more than backup goaltenders were paid on opening day of NHL Free Agengy. This gives the #Capitals a proven goalie, which is something they've been missing.

I have no idea how McPhee did this but it was utter genius. Experienced goaltender at a cheap price + a 1st + a 2nd for a goalie that was leaving for Russia. Wow
Isn't Colorado's GM fairly inexperienced? Regardless - he was just schooled by McPhee.
Not really! McPhee will be screwed in the long run! Bringing Vokoun into a team that has already to starting caliber young goalies... talk about crushing confidence. Vokoun will be around for a couple of seasons, after that, Washington will have nothing after doing this to their goaltenders.
I'm fine with it, because honestly the Avs are a playoff team and the draft pick will be in the 20's. everyone is over valuing the first.
Vokoun signed a one year deal to solidify an inexperienced troupe of goaltenders in a year they need to win a cup. I don't see how that crushes confidence, Holtby and Neuvirth know their place and they knew all along it would be a shared responsibility. I doubt Holtby or Neuvirth are losing sleep over competing for a job with an All-Star goalie, this only helps Washington. No offense Russ but a week ago you were talking about Vokoun going to Colorado as a certainty, now it's okay... pretty obvious McPhee pulled a fast one on you guys
You mad, Russ? You're assuming the Avs will be a playoff bound team, and not one with a lottery pick. Time will tell if this was a wise move or not.
